Litibu is the sixth child of Fonatur, Mexico's fund for transforming quiet beaches into full-blown resort destinations. The government makes an investment in roads, water, airports, etc. Private developers do the rest. If Litibu is like its older siblings -- Cancun, Ixtapa, Los Cabos, Loreto, and Huatulco -- we expect a bona fide resort to emerge here, anchored by a Greg Norman golf course. Several real estate and hotel projects are already going up.
The surrounding area is tranquil and pretty, on a nice stretch of beach between Punta Mita and Sayulita, just north of Banderas Bay.
