Profile

Tulum is the southernmost town of the Riviera Maya, home to pristine limestone beaches and the most important archeological ruins in the region.

Locals coined the term ‘eco-chic’ to describe Tulum’s laid back attitude and modern cabana-style architecture. The town is bordered by the protected Sian Ka’an Bio Reserve to the south and the ruins to the North that give Tulum it’s name – a massive Mayan fortress built in the 12th century atop a 40-foot ocean cliff.

Despite Tulum’s reputation as a quiet beach haven, things may be about to change. The town was incorporated as a municipality in 2008 and is the focus of a massive infrastructure push, including a new international airport and cruise ship port destined to make Tulum a major gateway, as well as a destination in it's own right.
