Profile

Rivera Cuale is set in a modest Mexican barrio called El Caloso, a 20-minute walk to the beach.

The project has legitimately green DNA (rooftop wind turbine, composting system, electric golf carts). It abuts a river and is near the mountains.

The design is superb. The big corner units receive more light than the inner ones. The larger units have nice city and bay views.

A "real" Mexican neighborhood will be a selling point to some. And with prices starting at $169,000, the value is compelling. A quality project like this in a ritzy area near the water would cost far more.

Pros

Nicely designed by KMD with clear attention to detail. The project has won numerous awards.
Environmental features, such as a green roof with wind turbine, recycled tires on the riverbank, and a fleet of electric carts to shuttle into town.
The developer says the area is a few degrees cooler than in the middle of town.
Adjacent to an ecological reserve and a river.
Views of town and the water.
Excellent value.

Cons

20 minutes walk to the beach and the happening part of town.
A big project in a lowrise, modest neighborhood (it stands out like a tourist at a cockfight).
Some units get more light than others ... as always, study the floorplans and model units.

General Comments

Three 9-story buildings set back from town next to a river with some environmentally friendly features.
